On December 27, 2024, the Beta Gamma Sigma (BGS) NCCU Chapter hosted its 2024 Induction Ceremony at the I-Yu Hall on the sixth floor of the College of Commerce at National Chengchi University (NCCU). The event marked a significant milestone for the inductees, celebrating their academic excellence and commitment to the highest standards of business education.

The ceremony commenced with a warm reception, setting the stage for an inspiring afternoon. The Associate Dean of the College of Commerce, Yenn-Ru Chen, delivered an engaging introduction to Beta Gamma Sigma and its NCCU Chapter. Highlighting the society’s pillars of honor, wisdom, and earnestness, she emphasized that BGS membership represents the pinnacle of academic achievement for business students enrolled in AACSB-accredited programs.

The Associate Dean elaborated on the exclusive nature of BGS, noting that membership is offered by invitation only and is extended to the top 10% of undergraduates and the top 20% of graduate and doctoral candidates. She proudly shared that the NCCU Chapter, which was established in 2008, has since welcomed over 558 distinguished members. “Being part of BGS not only recognizes your hard work but also connects you to a global network of leaders who share valuable insights for your career development,” she stated.

Following this educational introduction, the event transitioned to its most anticipated moment, the conferring of certificates presided over by the Dean of the College of Commerce, Jia-Chi Huang. Twenty-six outstanding individuals from undergraduate, graduate, and PhD were called to the stage, one by one, to receive their certificates. The atmosphere was filled with pride and accomplishment as each name was announced, marking their formal induction into this prestigious international society.

The Dean’s message inspired the members to strive not only for personal success but also for positive societal contribution.

The new BGS members themselves offered inspiring glimpses into their motivations and aspirations. Wai-Keong Lim, a second-year MBA student, viewed his induction as an affirmation of his passion for learning and his commitment to excellence.

The ceremony concluded with a group photograph to commemorate this exceptional achievement. He highlighted the program’s diversity and the invaluable friendships he has cultivated thus far with both Taiwanese and international peers. Roberto’s testimonial offered the visitors a personal glimpse into the transformative potential of studying at NCCU. His candid reflections provided a relatable perspective for the visitors, sparking curiosity about life in the IMBA program.

The day continued with a lunch gathering, providing an informal setting for students from both institutions to mingle and engage in spirited conversation. As they shared a meal at an on-campus restaurant, laughter and camaraderie filled the air. Students exchanged perspectives on academics, culture, professional careers, and daily life, forging connections that extended beyond the formalities of the day. This networking session deepened the bonds between NUS and NCCU students, reflecting the collaborative spirit that defines their partnership. Embarking on a new academic journey can be both exciting and daunting, and for those considering an International Master of Business Administration program, the admissions process can be a crucial first step. In their welcoming remarks, the co-moderators encouraged attendees to envision how the IMBA aligns with their personal and professional aspirations and to engage with the speakers to better understand the program’s distinctive features. This introduction laid the foundation for an informative presentation by IMBA Program Director Jason Tsai, who provided a comprehensive overview of the IMBA’s credentials and international impact.

Director Jason Tsai emphasized that the IMBA is Taiwan’s first English-taught MBA and the only MBA in Taiwan with dual international accreditations. These accolades, combined with its distinction as Taiwan’s only member of the prestigious Partnership in International Management (PIM) network, position the IMBA as a program with significant global reach and reputation. He portrayed the unique structure of the IMBA faculty, comprising academic experts from NCCU’s College of Commerce, industry professionals, and overseas professors. This diverse faculty brings theoretical knowledge and industry insights, creating a dynamic curriculum that fosters practical application.

The diverse scope of the IMBA program was further emphasized by its nine dual-degree partner institutions located across USA, France, Germany, and Austria. This array of global partnerships allows students to tailor their education, benefiting from international perspectives and a broad professional network. He credited the rigorous blend of individual assignments and collaborative projects with refining his problem-solving skills, boosting his confidence in public speaking, and enhancing his social life through student council events. These experiences underscored the IMBA program’s commitment to producing well-rounded graduates adept in both professional competencies and intercultural communication.

The program’s diversity, networking opportunities, and integration of theory with practical application were essential components in preparing him for a successful career. He remarked that the extensive IMBA alumni network provides a reliable source of support for graduates pursuing international careers and offers an ideal platform to exchange experiences and knowledge.

Roxanne Hu, from the Class of 2021, added to these inspiring stories by sharing how the IMBA’s affordability and flexibility influenced her decision to join the program. She reflected on the fulfilment she found in balancing a full-time job with her evening studies. Her participation in the Dual Degree Program with Audencia Business School in France further enriched her academic experience, leaving her with valuable memories and meaningful career opportunities.

Jose Garcia, a current student from Guatemala, shed light on the challenges and rewards of adapting to life in a foreign country. He encouraged prospective students to embrace the multicultural experiences the IMBA offers, both within and beyond the classroom. For him, the IMBA served as a platform for transformative growth by expanding his business knowledge and fostering strong social bonds. His candid reflections highlighted the importance of resilience and openness in adapting to a new culture, underscoring how the IMBA helps international students thrive both academically and personally.

Elisa Tang, from the Class of 2021, shared her unique experience of participating in two separate exchange programs, an opportunity rarely pursued by others. She studied at EADA Business School in Barcelona and later at CBS in Copenhagen, where she experienced immense personal and academic growth. Her journey reinforced the importance of balancing practical and theoretical knowledge, leaving her with invaluable memories and a broader perspective on the global business landscape.

Lastly, Ariel Kao, a current student from Taiwan, shared her journey of overcoming barriers in the job market, where she often encountered challenges related to her level of experience and qualifications. The IMBA program’s emphasis on presentations and public speaking played a pivotal role in boosting her confidence and empowered her to represent the finance team in her company at the annual conference. Her story exemplified how the IMBA provides a structured yet flexible environment where students can hone essential skills to excel in their careers.

The session concluded with an interactive question and answer session, followed by a networking session where prospective students mingled with alumni, current students, and faculty. This opportunity to communicate with program representatives offered deeper insights into the IMBA’s resources, admissions criteria, and support structures. The comprehensive curriculum, the dual degree, and the exchange programs were key points of interest, underscoring the program’s value for those seeking world-class education at an accessible cost.

As the IMBA program continues to adapt to global shifts, it remains dedicated to cultivating leaders who are well-versed in business fundamentals and capable of driving positive social change.
